Navy 10 Miler run

7-23-21  Runners and supporters of our military will have a rare opportunity to experience our outstanding military aircraft up-close at the first-ever Navy 10 Miler run, Saturday, November 13, 2021. The race will be held at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.

Participants will run around a section of the base and then proceed right down the center of the main runway. Along the way, they will pass by some of the most impressive military aircraft in the world to include the C-130, C-40, CH-47, F-18, F-16, F-35, and more.  Participants also will run through one of the historic hangars on base. The availability of planes may be impacted by their missions. The course is certified by the USA Track and Field Association.

The race is hosted by Navy MWR--the base’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department. MWR offers a variety of programs and services to support the readiness of the base’s military personnel. Race proceeds will be invested in MWR’s future programs and services.

CAPT Mark McLean, base Commanding Officer, said a 10-mile run on the base should appeal to a very wide audience.

“Being a runner myself, I know there are a lot of people in the area who enjoy competitive running,” he said. “And of course, the Metroplex has a strong tradition of supporting our local military personnel. So although it’s a 10-mile race on a certified course, it’s not just for hard-core competitors. If you enjoy casual running, you’ll enjoy the event. If you appreciate our armed forces, you’ll enjoy the event.  If you just like the idea of running past some cool jets, you’ll like this event.”

The Navy 10 Miler is open to both military personnel and the public. All runners will receive a commemorative T-shirt beforehand and a custom finisher medal afterward. Those who cannot make it to the event that day can participate in a virtual race.

Runners will start just inside the base’s security checkpoint for commercial vehicles. They will finish just outside the checkpoint, next to the finisher festival. This area will also include a viewing area for spectators as well as vendors.

CAPT McLean emphasized that the event is not an open house.

“For security reasons, only registered runners will actually be allowed on base,” he said. “However, spectators and fans can enjoy our finisher festival area. They’ll be able to cheer for the runners as they finish, and we’ll have several food trucks and vendors set up there. So even if you don’t run, you can still enjoy the morning.”

Early bird registration fee is $75. Members of the military can participate for just $50. (Individuals using this discount will be asked to present a valid form of ID at packet pickup). Registration for the virtual run is $65. To register or learn more, visit navy10miler.com.

Sponsorship and vendor opportunities are available. For more information about the event and sponsorships, please call 817-782-7762.
